What a week it's been! We had a wonderful relaxing time out on Kalangala Island for 4 days to celebrate our birthdays and to take some time to pray and evaluate the last three months. Brent did get a pretty bad sunburn on his legs as we were canoeing our way on the water, but recovering well. It was so good to take time on the quiet lake and seek God and be refreshed again by his presence and re-surrender our hearts again to Him and His will for our lives. Not that we have a whole lot more details than before, but a lot of Peace. Praise God!
We did return though to Little Tom Mouse and his friends in our house, climbing the walls, getting in our clothes and trying to eat our food. They're so frustrating cause they're so little and cute, but they're terrible house guests! Does anyone have any good ideas about catching mice? They're really hard to catch and I don't think they like cheese as is commonly thought. We tried it..didn't work...arrrgghh
Another thing, I was using the pit latrine (Virginia) the other day and I saw the Gecko climbing the inside wall of the door like I normally do but when I shut the door he must have been in between and got squished because he flopped to the ground unconscious. I didn't do CPR or anything, but I did feel really bad and had Brent remove his little body. That's the sad story of the week. Geckos are a funny creature. They show up when are where you don't expect them, especially the shower in the mornings!
If you ever get a chance to come to Uganda, you'll definitely find all sorts of fun assorted creatures. Big vulture birds that land on your roof and poo on you as you walk below, cockroaches that find their way into your bedroom, big ants that invade your kitchen, mosquitos and sorts of fun things.
Well, we're headed off again tomorrow to Moroto, Karamoja. It's a region in the NE part of Uganda where the people run around naked (so we hear) except for their AK47's that they use for cattle raiding and robbing. It's been a real unstable part of the country and we're believing God and His church to take some serious territory this week! So please pray as we'll be flying in tomorrow and coming back in 6 days. Thanks so much for dropping in!!!

All right we found a great solution! This will even work when you are gone, although maybe not. If you caught more than one and they started to starve they may eat each other?? I don't know that much about mice but anyways... It sounds like a great idea and looks like it will really work!

1. Catch:
a)peanut butter on/in trap
b)chase, corner, stomp
2. Release:
a)dead- dispose
b)alive- tennis racket
or
bottle shake
As proven by three years of college dorm life, these are your only options.
"If you release them alive, they will go through dry places seeking rest. When they see that your house is empty they will return with seven more mice and your house will be worse off than the start." (Matthewish 12:43-45)
Peanut butter is the way to go. Maybe Seth should bring along some handy mouse traps! :) Love you guys and hearing all about your adventures!
Yep, peanut butter will work like a dream! Infact, I just got to experience it last week with a little mousey in my housey. This is funny- I was up late doing homework and I heard some rustling in a kitchen drawer, so I tip-toed over and opened it, and there was the cutest little mouse I have ever seen! But, I knew mice were trouble, so I slapped some peanut butter on a mouse trap, put it in the drawer, then went back to my homework. About 30 min. later, the trap snapped, and so I rushed over to find that the little mouse had licked the trap clean and was caught by his precious little ankle. Awwww! In other words, he was still very alive. Great. Being a rodent lover that used to have several pet hamsters or gerbils (I can recite them by name in order. Ask me some time and I'll do it for you) I couldn't bear the thought of killing the little thing, so I did a very un-smart thing and woke up Gracie and asked her to do the deed. Well, that didn't go over too well because she's worse about loving the things than I am,...so by the time I figured out that Gracie in her freaked-out sleepy delirium was NOT going to do it, and got back down stairs, the mouse had gotten away! Errggg! We did catch the little bugger later though :)
Moral of story: don't let those sweet little eyes trick you into thinking it is an innocent helpless creature... and DON'T watch Mouse Hunt the night before you set the trap- like I did :)
Well, thanks to all of you with the great mouse catching ideas. The peanut butter trick just doesn't seem to work on african mice, who'd of thought. We did try some mice poison and it seems to be working wonderfully. We caught one of em yesterday after the poison slowed him down. Brent tossed him over the fence into the ravine below. Now we still have one left and he's sure to go down soon!
